I’m really excited to be sharing these images from Brooke’s Downtown Phoenix senior session!
When Brooke’s stepmom, Brittany, reached out to me about capturing Brooke’s senior session, I just knew it was going to be so much fun! Brittany told me that she was pretty sure Brooke wanted to shoot in Downtown Phoenix because they wanted something a little edgier and funky – and so I sent Brooke her pre-senior session questionnaire and made plans to go downtown and walk Roosevelt Row to see all the different art and possibilities we had!
If you guys haven’t ever been down to Roosevelt Row, you are really missing out. There are some seriously amazing pieces of art along there – but also the variety among the architecture, which ranges from classic stucco buildings to modern steel and glass, is really beautiful. To see how old Phoenix and new Phoenix are coming together to create life again makes my little heart pitter-patter (oh, I didn’t tell you how much of a history and art nerd I am? One day I’ll share all my faves!). For more information on Roosevelt Row, check out these two links: https://www.rooseveltrow.org/about/ and https://www.visitphoenix.com/things-to-do/roosevelt-row/.
So, after scoping out locations and sending alllll the ideas to Brooke & Brittany, Brooke chose her favorite spots, planned out her outfits with the help of Brittany and myself and we waited patiently for the day to arrive!
The day of the shoot arrived and my amazing friend & uber talented hair and makeup artist, Kerri Metcalf (follow her here: https://www.facebook.com/KerriMetcalfMUA/) went over to their home and started getting Brooke ready for the day! I really love offering hair and makeup for my seniors and couples as an complimentary service, because there really is nothing like being able to wake up knowing that you are going to go into your session with your hair and makeup not only flawless, but also looking so much like all of your Pinterest dreams – paired with that and the style guide, we’ve got you completely covered from A to Z!
After hair & makeup were set they headed off & met me in Downtown and we had the amazing luck of being able to walk around for about 3 hours and capture some seriously amazing images among some beautiful buildings and artwork of super skilled street artists! Have a peek below and tell me in the comments how many of these art pieces you’ve seen yourself!
But I absolutely have to say, my favorite part of my sessions is the time. Yes, time! Because of the time that I got to spend with Brooke before and during the session, I really got a chance to get to know her. We talked about how she got into marching band at her high school and how much music is one of the most important things in her life. We talked about why she chose Downtown Phoenix as her location, mainly because of the fact that she just loved how all of the colors worked together to create something beautiful (I agree!). And the time together really allowed me the opportunity to create a relaxing and fun atmosphere where she didn’t feel like some overly-excited goofball was following her around and telling her how to pose, but rather someone who cared about her heart and her needs and wanted to make sure she loved every moment of the process!
Brooke, thank you for allowing me this honor! And thank you for being the coolest high school senior! I am so excited to congratulate you on graduating as a Class of 2019 Senior!
